Hey there Greensboro Hopper Trolley fans!! The Hopper has four more months of funding and then…? We don’t know for sure, but its funding might not be extended if ridership does not increase before the end of June 2024.

So let’s ride the trolley!

Even in the 1800’s Greensboro was a trolley town. Horse drawn trolleys were on and around Elm Street since the 1870’s and then electric trolleys were brought here by New York investors in 1902.Trolleys ruled here until the popularity of the personal automobile overtook the streets and set trolley routes began to fade in popularity.

Fast forward to the 2020’s, when our city leaders were searching for ways to address the parking and mobility problems in our downtown. With the game-changing Tanger Center’s opening in 2022, folks were looking for new ways to get around to restaurants and bars before and after attending events. Funds from the American Rescue Act helped to launch the Hopper in July of 2023. And after six months, City Council voted to extend the Hopper through June 0f 2024.

Knowing that we might not have the Hopper Trolley in Downtown Greensboro forever, let’s all go for a ride or two while we can!Take friends with you! As a FREE service that’s fun, this trolley ride is a no brainer. Currently there are four trolleys that keep the action flowing. They run Thursdays through Saturdays , noon to midnight, and Sundays noon to 10:00pm. It’s easy to park near Fisher Park and hop on for a couple of loops up and down Elm Street. Hop on and off to shop, eat, and get to know Downtown Greensboro.
